We saw the need
Help a child’s vision and they’ll see a brighter future. Dr. Kourosh Sabri, pediatric ophthalmologist and McMaster University professor, founded ICEE on this belief in 2019.
One year later our first in-person clinic was held in Moosonee, Ontario, through partnerships with the Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) and local communities.
Currently all care in First Nations communities is supported through Jordan’s Principle. For Métis communities, vision care is funded through the Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation.

We conduct in-person clinics periodically, depending on community needs and logistics. Additionally, we offer regular telemedicine clinics to provide consistent care remotely.
How can I get involved to help?
You can support our work by volunteering, donating, or partnering with us. Contact us to explore ways to contribute to our mission.
How can I get my community on your list?
If your community needs our services, please contact us through our website to discuss how we can collaborate and bring eye care to you.
What happens if a child needs surgery?
If surgery is necessary, we will coordinate referrals to a specialist and ensure your child receives the required care, including transportation and support as needed.
Do you need to do the exams in a hospital?
No, most exams are conducted in community health centers or through telemedicine. Hospital visits are only needed for more complex or tertiary care.
How do you help the children feel comfortable?
Our team creates a friendly and supportive environment during exams, using child-friendly tools and approaches to help children feel at ease.
How long is each exam?
A typical eye exam lasts about 30 minutes, allowing us to provide thorough and personalized care for each patient.
What happens if a child needs glasses?
If your child needs glasses, we will provide a prescription and help arrange for them to receive the appropriate eyewear. Glasses are supplied at no cost through our partnerships.
